the toad pond

last spring, at my childhood home/parents place, i dug up half a sand filled pond, with the intention of eventually see some toads fool around there. usually i see them crawl up from holes in the ground near the shore so i figured they’d be happy with a pond for themselves.

the water made it impossible to dig deeper. but this dry summer i dug up the rest, reaching the bedrock.

unfortunately the water doesn’t like the pond as much as i do. i’m thinking of laying a special (rubber?) blanket to keep the water inside. it might look a little ugly before the vegetation over-runs the blanket, but at least it would serve its purpose.
so now i’m waiting for the blanket. and my sanity to return.

big in china, hated in nigera

so it seems. i am in frequent contact with chinese and nigerian (to name a few) applicants who seek admission to åbo akademi. in general, the nigerians just don’t make it. and they’re furious. especially those that don’t get admission because they faked their certificates.

i come to think of how much i hate dealing with authorities that get to know a lot about me, whereas they remain anonymous themselves. especially customs, kela and the police.

since i deal with lots of applicants who don’t gain the right to study at åbo akademi, they get to know me by name. and i definitely would not like to meet several of them. in conclusion, i must never go to nigeria.
